Eating Disorders take many faces. Though Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa are the most well-known, other types of disordered eating are widespread, including Binge Eating Disorder, Compulsive Eating, Night Eating Syndrome, Orthorexia Nervosa, Bigorexia, and Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified (EDNOS). The statistics on these disorders are only estimates, since many go undiagnosed, but it is thought that up to 24 million have one of the main types of eating disorders. Sadly, out of all mental illnesses, eating disorders have the highest mortality rate and only 1 in 10 are treated. These disorders affect both men and women of all ages, though the prevalence in adolescents, athletes, and females tends to be greater.
